Bus routes and things to do

Timetables for 2012 will be available at all Tourist Information Centres from mid May.

Local businesses and attractions along the Beacons Bus routes are very kindly once again offering special discounts to Beacons Bus passengers. All you need to do is show a valid, same day Beacons Bus ticket to qualify.

B4 Brecon – Abergavenny

This bus (and bike trailer) shuttles between Brecon and Abergavenny, passing through several pretty villages along the way. Why not get off the bus and stop for lunch at one of the many pubs or restaurants in Llanfrynach, Pencelli, Talybont on Usk or Crickhowell,  walk or cycle along the canal, or go for a walk or bike ride along the Taff Trail and catch the bus back later? There’s lots to do in Abergavenny too – with its castle and museum, Tithe Barn exhibition centre, Linda Vista gardens, shops, pubs and restaurants.

 

B10 Brecon  Carmarthen

This bus will take you to Llandovery, Llandeilo, Aberglasney Gardens, the National Botanic Garden of Wales and Carmarthen.

 

B11 Brecon – National Park Visitor Centre

See the exhibition displays and learn more about the National Park, admire the fantastic views, enjoy lunch or tea at the tearooms or just take a leisurely stroll on the common. There’s also a geocache trail to discover – ask the Centre staff for details.

 

B12 Brecon – Llangors – Hay on Wye

The B12 bus takes you to Talgarth where you can visit the restored watermill or to Llangors Lake where you can spend an hour visiting the Welsh Crannog Centre.  If you carry on to Hay on Wye, you could catch the 39A back to Brecon at 4.45pm, which would give you more time to spend in the famous book town.

 

B13 Brecon - Geopark Circular

This B13 service connects at Pontneddfechan with X5 service for Neath and Swansea, which issues and accepts Beacons Bus day tickets.

This circular route takes you on a tour around the Fforest Fawr Geopark and there is a guide on board the 2.40pm service to explain exactly what you're seeing. A special leaflet is also available from the bus supervisors at the Brecon Bus interchange. Stops include Penderyn Distillery and Visitor Centre where you can see how whisky is distilled, Pontneddfechan where you can visit the exhibition at the Waterfalls Centre before taking a walk along the river to the falls, Craig y Nos Country Park and Dan-yr-ogof caves. The Geopark Festival 2012 runs from 26th May-10th June offering 16 dqays of walks, talks and other events. B15 Brecon to Blaenavon World Heritage Centre & Big Pit

Take an underground tour with a former miner at Big Pit Mining Museum, visit Blaenavon Ironworks and the World Heritage Centre or take a ride on the Blaenavon Railway. The bus shuttles between these sites in Blaenavon, as shown in the timetable, until it leaves to return to Brecon at 4.05pm.

 

B16 Brecon -Taff Trail Roundabout

These sightseeing tours are a wonderful way to explore the Park. There is a guide on-board the 11.15am service who’ll point out places of interest as you travel along. They can also help with ideas for walks and activities too! Why not stop off in Talybont-on-Usk for a walk along the canal? The route also stops at the Brecon Mountain Railway who are offering a discount to Beacons Bus passengers – just show your ticket.

 

B17 Hay on Wye – Offa’s Dyke Flyer

A small bus takes you on this stunning circular route, down the Llanthony Valley to Llanfihangel Crucorney and back up the English/Herefordshire side of the valley. Ask the supervisors for the special Offa’s Dyke Flyer leaflet for ideas of places to stop and things to do. To use this route when travelling from Brecon, first you need to take the 39A to Hay-on-Wye and catch the B17 from there.
